Windows 11 ver. 23H2

Post by hlewton »

I believe the latest version of Windows 11 is version 23H2 but I don't recall a version 23H1. I am running version 22H2 currently. Was there a version 23H1 that I missed?

Also if anyone has installed version 23H2 are there problems I should be aware of before installing it or should I not install it at all?

Thanks
Regards,
hlewton

Windows 11 gets only one "major" update per year:
21H2
22H2
23H2
There is no 23H1.
Best wishes,
Hans

I too have been running 23H2 since it was first available without any problems. It is a reasonably quick install since most of the bits are already on your PC and they are just being enabled.

OK, thank you. I was hoping there weren't any printer problems again like so many had with one of the updates. Guess I'll install i very soon.

One of my machines is not offering version 23H2. Is there a way to force it to install Windows 11 version 23H2? My other 2 offered it immediately after updating everything for version 22H2 but I have not found a way to update this one machine.

If I were you I'd just be patient. The ways of MS are mysterious when it comes to who gets offered stuff and when they get it.

Windows 11 23H2 is now offered with the Media Creation Tool. See Download Windows 11.

Be sure to make an image backup of your system before embarking on any major upgrade.

OK, thank you. I am going to give it a little time and see if I eventually get it offered to me like on the other computers but I will keep this in mind.

My machine already has Windows 11 version 22H2 on it. I think, from the link, option 1 is the choice I need to use but it refers to,
This assistant is for those who wish to:

Upgrade a Windows 10 PC to Windows 11
and that is not what I need to do, mine is already Windows 11. The other 2 choices don't seem to be the correct choices either. Is option 1 what I need to do?

 In your previous post, made only a few minutes before you asked this question, you said you were going to wait and see if the update was offered automatically so why are you now trying to do it manually?

That is my make up I guess. I'm very impatient. I guess I am going to have to wait though because I tried using option 1 and it failed miserably. Not at all sure that was the right option but I'm done for at least the next few days. So, I am in the wait and see mode, as we speak now.

Personally, I'd use option 3 - download the ISO. Once you have the ISO downloaded, mount it, and then run setup.exe. If you run setup.exe within Windows you will perform an upgrade in place. With an upgrade in place, all your programs and data will be intact. If you burn the ISO to a USB drive or use option 2 to create a bootable USB drive and then boot from the USB drive you will perform a clean install and have to reinstall all your programs.

Whatever you choose to do, make an image backup of your system before you start.

Thank you. What does "mount it" mean? I found this but still not sure what it means unless I would be offered that as an option. What would I have to do to mount it?
To mount an ISO file means to access its contents as if it was recorded on a physical medium and then inserted in the optical drive. If you downloaded a software in the form of an ISO image and want to install it, mounting it will be faster and easier than recording it on an actual disc.

If you do a search for:
how to mount an iso file in windows 11
the first hit will help you.

Wot Leif said

However, dare I suggest that as you didn't understand what I thought was a simple hint about how to get started then perhaps it might be safer for you to either wait for this upgrade to happen automatically or if you are really can't wait, take the machine to your PC guy and get him to do the upgrade for you.
