Can't see my networked computers in Explorer

Post by Peter Kinross »

This is an ongoing prob, that has been partially fixed.
In Explorer, I cannot see most of my other computers under 'Network'.
My modem can see them all, but they don't show in Explorer. However if I enter the computer name, EG //pkslaptop, in the Explorer address bar, that computer is then visible.
How can I get them to be visible in Explorer without that name entry?
Avagr8day, regards, Peter

Are all the computers in the same workgroup?

I was having the same problem, not that it bothered me enough to hunt for a solution. After reading Peter's post, I did find the answer in post #16 of the thread https://www.tenforums.com/network-shari ... ser-2.html.

On each computer in your network, run the Services app "as administrator". Locate the two services named "Function Discovery Provider Host" and "Function Discovery Resource Publication". For each of them, double-click to open the Properties dialog, click the Startup Type dropdown and choose "Automatic (Delayed Start)", and click OK. Reboot the computer.

For instructions to disable SMBv1, see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... indows-and

Thanks John, but I have no idea how to check if they are all in the same workgroup.

Thanks Jay, but No luck. "Function Discovery Provider Host" and "Function Discovery Resource Publication" were already on on 2 computers as ‘Automatic start’. Changing to ‘auto delayed’ made no dif. The 3rd computer (Win 7) had them set to ‘Manual’. Changing to ‘auto delayed’ made no diff. SMB was unticked on all 3.
I am at a loss.
