Sound not working through speakers
My sound is not working, hasn't worked since the April 2018 Windows Update I did yesterday.
Any ideas?

Can you provide some details? What brand and model of computer? Which audio driver?
Best wishes,
Hans

Where do I get the info you require? Asus computer, driver details are:
The computers speakers are working albeit very quietly but the external speakers are not working

You could try:
- Click Disable Device, then click Enable Device.

Re: Sound not working through speakers
Can you confirm that everything is still physically connected exactly as it was before?
What other devices can you see in device manager, under the heading "Sound, video and game controllers">

No changes in physical connections.
The only thing that happened was the April 2018 Update, could that have changed a setting?

Re: Sound not working through speakers
That was a problem with the WiFi adapter. What do you see when you click on Device Manager - VIA HD Audio?

Hans

Re: Sound not working through speakers
That does point to a problem - the equivalent for my computer has two more entries stating "Driver service added" and "Device installed". Those are apparently missing on yours. There are many complaints about Via HD Audio on Windows 10, by the way, with so many different suggestions to solve it that I don't dare recommending any of them.
I suggest that you ask this question on Microsoft Community, there are many experts participating there. (Be cautious though, there are also users posting irrelevant boilerplate replies)

Thanks Hans, will do.
I am thinking of buying a new set of speakers (cheap ones) as the old ones are a bit doddery. Would this maybe solve the problem?

Re: Sound not working through speakers
Have you looked at Settings > System > Sound
to see which output device is selected?
I have sometimes resolved similar problems by deleting ALL of the sound devices in Device Manager (you seem to have five of them). Then restarting the computer. Then using device manager to scan for changes (it's in the Action menu). Then going to System > Sound to select the correct output device.

Yes, right-click each sound device in turn and select 'Uninstall device' from the context menu.

Re: Sound not working through speakers
Followed those instructions and got all 5 back in the list??
When I uninstalled them there was an option to delete the driver, I didn't choose that.

Re: Sound not working through speakers
I just deleted drivers when uninstalling. I then restarted and found the 5 sounds devices in the list without choosing to scan for changes.
Where do these devices come from, I only have the internal and external speakers?
This the list after the restart:

Re: Sound not working through speakers
It is odd that you have many similar Audio Device entries. Do you see five different options in Settings > System > Sound? Have you tried all of them?
You could try following the instructions in this ASUS FAQ
