OK, sorry for the abrupt end to last night's post but it was my son's Birthday and time for cake and tea, etc.
I then took Jay's advice about looking hard at the BIOS settings, and I went through a lot of possibilities and was having no luck....then I disabled CSM ( Compatibility Support Module ) and lo and behold a new list showed up with four choices for UEFI and/or Legacy settings. I checked legacy on all and rebooted GREAT into both Win 7, then Win10.
BTW, 10 was version 1803! despite what the ASUS "expert" support person said!
I think this sad tale is over. THANK YOU. Jay. Much appreciated!

With apologies to Etta James... AT LAST!! I'm glad you were able to sort it. The Gigabyte BIOS doesn't have a CSM, as far as I'm aware, so I wouldn't have been able to help with that crucial bit.

Apology accepted Etta....I mean Jay!
To make things worse, the other options for Legacy items were hidden until the CSM option was disabled, so I just stumbled on those settings. Try and buy BIOS.
Thinking back on the Gigabyte BIOS pages, they were so much more easier to understand and use. Another lesson learned.
Thanks a million for your patience on this,Jay. :clapping:
