I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7. One of the things I find annoying is that I can't save any Excel files.
I can open a previously saved Excel file but when I modify it and try to save it, I encounter an error: Document not saved.
I tried opening and saving six different Excel files and I get the same error message. The only thing different is the operating system upgrade.
Any suggestions?

Re: Recent Upgrade
Which version of Office are you using?
Do you save by default to your hard disk or to cloud storage (for example OneDrive)?

Hans,
Office 2010. I save to the hard disk or an external drive. I do not use cloud storage.

Re: Recent Upgrade
Does the problem occur both for files on the hard disk and files on the external drive?

Both drives are encountering the challenge although I was able to get one file to save with changes twice but on the third attempt, I received the error message: Document did not save.
I did a repair of the Office 2010 Pro installation and still am encountering the challenge.

Thanks for sharing the link. I saw those recommendations prior to my original post. Nothing changed other than the upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. I tried saving the file with a different filename and still the challenge persists.

Re: Recent Upgrade
You could try the following:
- Quit Excel if it is currently open.
- Click the start button or press the Windows key.
- Right-click Excel.
- Select More > Run as Administrator from the context menu.
- Click Yes if Windows asks for permission.
Can you save workbooks if you start Excel like that?

Re: Recent Upgrade
Hans,
When I run Excel as an Administrator I get the same error message for the hard drive and external drive. One thing that I noticed is that when I create a new workbook and save it, I don't get the error message. I can open, make changes and save the new file multiple times without encountering the error.

This must be a new feature. I'll play around with it a bit more and in a worse-case scenario I'll revert back to Windows 7. My guess is that I'll have just as much fun reverting back. I'll have to take note of the 10 day period in which Windows 10 will automatically delete the previous Windows version.
Thanks for taking the time....

Re: Recent Upgrade
Hans,
I found the resolution. The virtual environment (VMWare) required a new "VMWare Tool". Apparently with the latest Windows 10 build Microsoft did some behind the scenes thing with the way Office files were saved. In Windows 10 Build 1709 things were just fine.
