Unable to use Windows 10 while updating

I am having a challenge using Windows 10 while the updates are taking place.

The screen is greyed out and and I am unable to navigate anywhere. I should be able to keep working while the updates take place. The process bar is moving so I know the updates are being downloaded and installed.

That is strange, but I don't think you can do anything about it...

I would guess that it depends on the capabilities of your system. It sounds like the updates are taking all of your available resources in order to do the updating. So, go for a swim or walk or find another thing to pass the time. Hopefully, it won't be too long!

Ok, I've encountered it once a few years ago when I initiated an update. I stopped the update, booted into safe mode, cleared all temporary files and cache, restarted and updated again without problems.

Why I asked which version, I always turn off automatic updates (which isn't easy to do in the home version) and update when
a) I think the updates are ok without destroying my PC, and
b) when my time is convenient, not when the systems thinks its a good idea.

In other words, I update when I don't need to use the PC.

I thought I had the updates tweaked to install at a later time ... apparently not.
