Like:
1. Is this right now being released as an in-place replacement upgrade for Windows 7 & 8? ( I know it's a work in progress ) What happens to my Win 7 and all the data?
2.Can I make it dual boot, instead of blowing away 7?
3. How about fall back to prior versions of Windows?
4.What are the hardware requirements? Any upgrading needed?

Are things like this available in a link somewhere or can People in the Lounge answer them?

Windows 10 is getting closer with the update of Vista & 7 possibilities.

Whilst I understand that past (recent) MS programmes eg Office 2010, will be 'cared for', are there potentially many non-MS software's that will likely not function for a while at least? Or can one expect all currently loaded software programmes including video/picture editing software to function correctly?
What steps, if any, should we take prior to accepting an offer to install W10

Under the hood, Windows 10 will be similar to Vista/7/8/8.1, so most software that runs on those versions should still run on Windows 10. And, as with previous versions, Windows 10 supports running older software in compatibility mode for Windows 8, 7, Vista, XP, 98/ME or 95.
Checking software against Windows 8.1 in the Compatibility Center should give you a pretty good idea of what will run on Windows 10 too.
Best wishes,
Hans
