WIndows 10 21H1

Post by BobH »

Checking for updates tells me that I am current for version 20H2. I need to upgrade to version 21H1 because some apps I use a lot are suggesting it to resolve some issues. I tried to download it from Settings > Update & Security but the hyperlink is not active.

What must I do to get the download for an update?

Hi Bob, the only thing I can think of is some updates require your Laptop being plugged in and charging.
If it wasn't for bad luck I'd have NO luck at all.

You say, "hyperlink", but do you actually mean that when you click the grey 'Download' button, nothing happens?

I presume you have tried completely shutting down the machine and restarting from cold and that didn't help? In which case, try searching for:
Windows 10 says updates are available but not downloading
Many of the hits in a search like that are about stopping and restarting the updater service. I can't offer you any better help though as I've never had this problem with my machine.

What happen when you click "View optional updates"?

That is where you SHOULD see the link for 21H1

I have tried powering the laptop off and back on without success. The machine stays plugged into household power. When I click "View Optional Updates" the only thing displayed is "Driver Updates" and clicking it produces not response. I had no luck the first couple of times I searched, but I shall try again.

Thanks for the advice!

Why not force the update yourself manually?
Go to https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/win ... 885390d212 then to the second bullet point, and get the Update Assistant. Follow the instructions!
