One of my long standing pet hates relates to not being able to turn off Conversation View in Gmail on Android devices ... I hate emails being linked up in a daisy chain of various cc recipients etc. and have repeatedly contacted Google via the app facility to ask them to actually make this Setting work.
Finally it works
and now tells me that I have Conversation View turned off. It always worked on gmail/pc but not on Android ... don't know about Apple products.
