In both the Word Open dialogue box and in Windows Explorer, there is no delay in displaying all of the files in a particular folder that I open up, with one exception: In the Word Open Dialogue box, I have one particular folder that contains about 20 shortcuts to other files. There is always a display in populating that folder with the relevant shortcuts, which starting about a couple of weeks ago, started displaying one by one rather than all at once. In Windows Explorer, they all still appear all at once without delay.
What can be causing this issue and is there a fix?

Re: Word Open dialogue slow in populating contents
This might be a tough one.
You could move one of the shortcuts to another folder temporarily, then check whether the problem persists.
If not, that shortcut is probably the cause of the slowness.
Otherwise, move another shortcut out of the folder, etc.

Do you mean 'delay', rather than 'display'?jmt356 wrote:....There is always a display in populating that folder with the relevant shortcuts, ...
Are all the shortcuts valid?
Try moving them all to another (temporary) folder and returning them one by one to see if there is an issue with the number of shortcuts, or perhaps just one.

Yes; I meant "delay."Leif wrote:Do you mean 'delay', rather than 'display'?jmt356 wrote:....There is always a display in populating that folder with the relevant shortcuts, ...

Yes; they are all valid.
I just discovered something very odd in implementing the above suggestions: The delay does not appear if I navigate to the folder in question by going to Documents and then to the folder while within the MS Word Open dialogue box. Rather, it only occurs if I access the folder in question by going to the shortcut that I added under Favorites within the MS Word Open dialogue box.

I'm afraid I don't know what could cause the problem with Favorites, or how to solve it.

Re: Word Open dialogue slow in populating contents
Is there any reason why this thread is in the windows 8 forum and not Word?
Just inquiring as I was doing a search in Win8 forum and this stuck out as an odd one?

You're correct, it should be in Word.
And now it is...

Re: Word Open dialogue slow in populating contents
I put it in the Windows 8 forum because I thought the Word dialogue was somehow linked to Windows Explorer.
In any case, I restored my computer to an August image and no longer experience the delays in the Open dialogue.
