Savoy Cabbage

Post by ChrisGreaves »

Full details here
SavoyCabbage_DSCN2024.JPG
On February 19th 2015, in the middle of the coldest winter we’ve had so far this year, The Toronto Star ran a half-page article on Savoy Cabbage . I folded the page under my pillow and went to sleep dreaming of summer days of salads.
Today, Sunday, August 09, 2015, winter seems to have gone, so I unfolded the page, crept out to the supermarket and bought myself a Savoy Cabbage. First time in my life.

Basic treatment as for regular cabbage - I knifed it, although I suppose you could put it in one of those atomising food-processor mincy thingys.
Tonight I will try boiling some with my chicken-and-rice.
If I don't come back y'all can have every bug I own ...

By the way - it's interesting to note that Savoy cabbage is considered a typical winter vegetable here in The Netherlands...

Hans

I'd not heard of it (Savoy Cabbage) before this year.
"Winter Vegetable" because it survives well into winter (in the home garden) or because it is favoured in winter dishes (such as soups)?

Both, I think. Like kale and Brussels sprouts, Savoy cabbage can actually be grown in the winter, when it's too cold for most other vegetables
Best wishes,
Hans

Chris didn't mention anything about a party?
We can of course pitch up at his house out of the blue (with some fake invites). I'll bring the music :fanfare:

Rudi

Come one come all!
Of course, if there's more than three of you we will have to adjourn to The Marriot Courtyard across the street.
They serve coffee, as well as
