chocolate coated coffee beans

Post by ChrisGreaves »

I needed some new plastic bags for my home-baked bread, so I dropped in to Bulk barn yesterday to get some plastic bags. They come in all flavours, lined on the inside with chocolate-coated raisins, chocolate-coated caramel, and chocolate-coated coffee beans.

I assume I could roast the beans myself and stir them into melted chocolate (wafers come with free plastic bags from Bulk Barn!) but ...
... what's the caffeine content?

When I roast the beans (i assume that's what I have to do to make them crunchable) am I ridding myself of most of the caffeine?
Or must I boil-then-roast, or roast-then-boil, or ... to drop the caffeine?

Roasting coffee beans doesn't remove the caffeine.

Why don't you but decaffeinated coffee beans?
Best wishes,
Hans

Well, I suppose I could,
I've not bought chocolate-coated coffee beans before, and as I walked down Victoria Street I wondered whether I was consuming about 10x my daily intake of caffeine; also what happened to people chomping on these things in movie theatres - did the beans keep them awake?

Buying decaf beans would work, but whenever I've bought (or ordered decaf) I've always felt that I'm paying more to let someone else make use of "my" caffeiene.

very dog-in-the-manger, I admit ...

P.S. Welcome back!

Silly question! Why would you want to coat coffee beans in chocolate?
I'd rather coat raisons or shortcake in chocolate...heck I'd even coat chocolate in chocolate...not coffee beans!

Rudi

"Tastes like chicken" holds for many things (but not for chicken eggs...)
Best wishes,
