Who, on Eileen's Lounge, is using either of these, and how?
I've been seeing C&C as ingredients in recipes in the Toronto Star for a long time, so I bought a small jar of each.
I suppose I could start by adding a bit to my brown rice, or to a soup etc, but I'd be interested to get some very basic uses from co-Loungers, to get me off to a better start than my normal random-process technique.

Re: coriander and cumin
I use both in sauces, particular Italian tomato sauces; but the cumin is a bit too strong for the Italian types. I use it in Mexican sauces and in Indian dishes.
For any who don't know, coriander is the seed from the cilantro plant. It is about the size of a BB, black and is usually ground before adding to a dish 'tho this is not strictly necessary to get the flavor.

For my next batch of onion-and-tomato pasta sauce I'll try a teaspoon of one; the other for the next batch.

I put a fingernail-full of each into my lentil, left-over chick-pea, defrosted chicken-breast and vegetable-stock soup on the weekend, and it was yummy!

Being more specific, cilantro is an herb and coriander is a spice (I think?).Skitterbug wrote:I didn't know this. Thank you for the info! Yea! I learned something today!BobH wrote:For any who don't know, coriander is the seed from the cilantro plant.

Re: coriander and cumin
Coriander is the name of the plant, and in many languages, also the name of its fresh leaves used as a herb; the name cilantro appears to be specific to North America.
Best wishes,

Re: coriander and cumin
We grow coriander in our vegetable garden each year, and in the fall, I harvest the seeds. While coriander seed is available at the grocery store, throwing the newly harvested seeds in a spice grinder yields a much more flavourful product, and the aroma is amazing.
