I have come into a surfeit of oregano leaves., crushed.
Can I make tea with them by steeping them in boiling water?
Well, obviously, yes, I can, but will it do me any harm? any good?
What about all the other stuff sitting in my cupboard? Basil, Italian Seasoning etc. etc.
P.S. If I do experiment, it will be with weak doses, so to speak, at first.

Re: herbal teas
Basil tea,
Italian Seasoning tea
No, no, no, no.... those are made for pizza's and pasta's. Not tea!!!
I don't even drink green tea, or chamomile...
But then again...that me...
Go ahead and experiment (but keep a choccie bar handy in case the taste is un-appetising...!!

Re: herbal teas
Yes, you can make oregano tea from fresh or dried oregano leaves. Don't make it too strong or let it steep too long - the tea would become very bitter.
The 'standard' variety of basil used in Italian cooking can be used for making tea too but it may have a rather marked flavor - you'd have to try it out. You might combine it with 'ordinary' tea or with other herbs.

Thanks Hans.HansV wrote:... Don't make it too strong or let it steep too long ...
Your advice makes sense (as usual!).
When I think about it, it is little different from asking in the wild "What berries can I eat?", the answer being "Start off with berries that birds eat, taking one at a time and waiting to see if side-effects crop up"

Thanks, Leif (I'm finding it hard not to pun); The "cautions" in the linked articles make sense.Leif wrote:While the contents of your larder gently infuse, ...

I don't really like tea and don't completely understand why people love it so much. It tastes like hot leafy water to me...
