I have a client who is getting a popup: "Select a Location for the 'Network 3' location." The family does not network their PCs. All she is really wanting is to eliminate the popup. Any help would be appreciated.
This is on a Vista Home Premium PC.

The simplest way to eliminate this popup is to select a location for the Network 3 location!Pilgrim wrote:...All she is really wanting is to eliminate the popup...
The message tells you that windows has found a network and wants to know how to configure the firewall. If you never share anything on the network then choose "Public" to tell windows to provide maximum firewall protection.

Okay.... now HOW/WHERE does she do this? Since I haven't seen this prompt personally, I don't have a clue when it appears (guessing that it is on startup) or if there is an option to click a button on the prompt, etc. This person is woefully PC illiterate and it is very difficult to get her to follow instructions as she is convinced she cannot do anything.StuartR wrote:The simplest way to eliminate this popup is to select a location for the Network 3 location!

So, some detailed instructions here that I could pass on to her would be greatly appreciated.

That looks like the dialog box from Windows 7, which is accessed slightly differently.HansV wrote:And here is a screenshot of the dialog:...

That's odd, it looks identical to what I see on my Windows 7 PC, here is a screen shot of what I see on my Vista PC.HansV wrote:I found the screenshot on a web page about setting up a network on Windows Vista...

The screenshot I posted corresponds to what Pilgrim reported in the first post in this thread. It has a link "Customize the name, location type and icon for the network" near the bottom. I think that this link leads to the dialog in your screenshot.
Best wishes,
