My gigabit network only transferring at 10MB/sec speeds

Post by Mohammednt0 »

Transferring data from a computer to my server suffers from poor network transfer speeds.

My gigabit network only transferring at 10MB/sec speeds

My network devices are

gigabit Modem/router ,
Server with gigabit port,
and laptop connected to AmazonBasics USB 3.0 to 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter

I connected the server to the modem/router via cat 6 cable, then i connected my laptop to the modem/router via cat 6 cable , after that i maped the server network drive

Now When I transfer data on the network i get 11MB/sec, In the network tab of task manager it sits pretty consistently at 10%, it means im using only 10% out of 100% im not using the adapter full power

What is my bottleneck !? I I have spent days and days trying to figure it out, but i achieved nothing

I tried many different cat 6 cables
I bought and tried 4 usb 3.0 to gigabit ethernet adapters
I bought new gigabit linksys modem/router
I tired to update the adapter drivers
I Enable AHCI Mode
From network properties I set the adapters speed to 1Gb

I disabled Data protection software, Anti-Virus, Malware Protect

and still the problem is not solved what am i missing !?!!

Is the USB port in the laptop USB 3.0?

Transferring data from laptop to my server suffers from poor network transfer speeds. My gigabit network only transferring at 10MB/sec speeds,
I think I have covered every possibility, I don't see where is the problem or what is exactly my bottleneck in the below setup,

I connected the server to Gigabit modem/router via cat 6 cable, also I connected my laptop to the Gigabit modem/router via cat 6 cable, after that I mapped the server network drive, Now When I transfer data over the network I get Maximum 11MB/sec, In the network tab of task manager it sits pretty consistently at 10%, So I’m using only 10% out of 100% I’m not using the Full potential of the Gigabit Network, what is my bottleneck!? I have spent days and days trying to figure it out, but I achieved nothing

In Details, I think i have covered everything, i don't see where is the problem or what is exactly my bottleneck in the below setup,
- My Modem/Router is Linksys X6200 comes with Gigabit Ethernet Ports (Check Here)
- I have update the Linksys X6200 to the latest firmware
- My Router is LINKSYS EA6350 AC1200 (Check Here)
- My humble server is ORICO Wireless Home Cloud Media Center with Gigabit Port (Check Here)
- I just bought and tried these 2 Cat7 Cables (Check Here) - (Check Here)
- my laptop is Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 (Check Here) With USB 3.0 Ports
- Laptop Drivers are up to date, I downloaded them directly from the official Dell Site (Check Here)
- I used AmazonBasics USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (Check Here), updated with the latest driver
- From AmazonBasics network Adapter properties I set the adapters speed at 1Gb
- AHCI Mode is Enabled
- I disconnect the internet, and I turn off all firewalls
- I Removed Data protection software (Anti-Virus, Malware Protect)
- I tried many different Cat6 cables
- I bought and tried 4 USB 3.0 to gigabit ethernet adapters
- I connected the server directly to the laptop using the AmazonBasics USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter but the speed is still around 8-12MB/sec speeds
- There is enough RAM 6GB ( Used 3.1 GB, and 2.7 GB is Available)
- My system is not infected with Virus or Malware (I just Clean installed windows 10 fall creator update)
- I tried all the USB 3.0 Ports on my laptop

what is my bottleneck ?!! am I missing something!?

What software are you using to transfer the data?
What tool are you using to measure the transfer speed?

A simple drag and drop from Windows Explorer is never going to give great network performance, it's just not optimised enough.

I don't understand this. How do you know that "I get Maximum 11MB/sec". You must be transferring data with something, and you must be measuring the speed somehow!

It is very hard to move 1GB of data from a single PC, you would need specialised software to do this. Most normal software runs on just a single thread on one CPU, and is incapable of driving the network to its maximum speed.

If you use your favourite search engine to look for "how to measure the network speed between two PCs", you will find articles like this one.
