my internet stopped working last monday night for no apparen

This is probably the wrong forum.

I had the ISP here for 2 hours yesterday, the router was working as my phone connected ok, it was just my laptop.

After a lot of mucking around I thought I would go back one system restore point and voila!

Restore point is great; it has been useful for me on many occasions.

The only negative is that you don't know what caused the issue?
Was it an add-in or extension or a windows update that cause the break? Did you change anything on your PC or install something recently?

I don't think we'll easily find that out in order to try avoid it from happening again.

True Rudi, I think it was part of an automatic update, so who knows what it was.

It was working prior to dinner one night then after coming bac home again it had stopped.

As an aside I tried top open a database of mine that shows graphs and an error popped up saying that a ole file could not be found, that has gone since the system restore.

Thank goodness for system restore logic.

It has happened again. I am going back to a restore point.
how do i stop automatic updates if that is the problem?

does anybody know how to see what the problems as Rudi suggested above.

The restore failed, what now? It said an anti virus program may have the file in use???
i need to know what file is stopping the system restore??

Try running system restore with windows booted into safe mode.
See this guide, under the heading Use Safe Mode.

It seems that system restore is not fixing the issue if it happened again? You don't want to system restore each time your browser hangs! I'm not too sure what to suggest in resolving this issue? Maybe try cleaning up your system using CCleaner and MalwareBytes? Maybe try a different browser?

It maybe doing it right but maybe it downloaded the culprit again.
i was about to try it in Safe Mode. Wish me luck.
when you reboot do you just hld down the F8 key or keep tapping it?

There is generally an on screen prompt, but, tapping it continually will probably do the job too...

Did that but no good so i used msconfig to do it.
The trouble now is that there are no more restore points.
Now what do i do?

What kind of connection do you have? DSL? Fibre to your router?

Are you saying your (voice) phone is a VOIP type?
Or just that your phone was also plugged into your router?

If the former, I would suspect your laptop 'network card'.
If the latter, I would suspect the router.

In my experience, routers and network cards start misbehaving in an erratic manner long before finally biting the dust.

DSL. The router provides a wireless connection for both phone and laptop.
The router is fine.
If its a network card why did the sytem restore work a few days ago.
i tried a restore today because that fixed it for a few days then problem again today. The system restore i tried today failed and it also deleted the restore point, so i have no restore points to go back to.
what can i do now?

Internet Explorer offers troubleshooting if it can't reach the Internet. You might try that, even if IE isn't your default browser.

IE troubleshooting said that it cant reach the
wireless adapter or access point.

When the ISP guys were here they tried it but no good.
another problem arises while it is in this state, when i ooen one of the
access databases it bombs with an OLE type problem when executing vba code. I ran.malwarebytes
And it showed a couple of problems which i quarantined.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is some kind of (intermittent) hardware failure, but I can't rule out a software problem. Since you have no restore points left, you could run a system file check. If that doesn't help, reinstalling Windows from scratch might be your best bet...

Have you tried using a wired Ethernet connection from your laptop to the router. Even if this doesn't give a permanent solution it might give you a temporary workaround, and we would learn something from the result.
