A few years ago I had a builder quote me more than £1000 to install a light pipe in a poorly lit room in my house. I should have told him to make one himself out of a plastic bottle!

I had a 'solar tube' fitted a couple of years back (around £400) in our windowless stairwell - incredibly effective. It even worked with moonlight, although it said nowt on the box about being a 'lunar tube' too
