pre-Covid air travel

How it used to be.
Note the wind direction indicator at 7m13s.

That film looks more pre-Black Death than pre-Covid.

You could be right, Leif.
I especially liked (3m52s) the uniformed officer running to catch the bridle of the horse as the coach (with passengers) pulled in.

Cheers

Is that what they mean by "flying coach"?
Best wishes,
Hans

Well Hans,
It's funny you should mention that [500 words deleted here].
A recent (i.e latest one or two) episode of either Kevin Stroud's "The History of English Podcast" or Ray Belli's "Words for Granted" discussed the etymology of the word "coach".
"Coach" as we use it is derived from the Hungarian town of Kocs

A coach took you places, so "to coach someone" was to "take them to a new level".
Strangely, though, the Hungarian word for coach is NOT Kocs.

But I digress.
Perhaps the people in the coach were traveling FROM Croydon TO Hungary? I have been to Croydon, and I could understand why one would want to do that.
Cheers
Chris
P.S. I am still working on the connection between people being squeezed in coach class and "acroydionated" :groan:
