Go On! Ask me what kind of day I've had.

Note how the metrics build up as they approach the Bonavista Peninsula, then drop off (in a manner of speaking) once they get to the Atlantic Ocean; there'll be nothing left by the time they reach the Barton Swing Aqueduct
Note how the winds swirl around and into the Bonavista Peninsula. The energy of a moving fluid (in this case air) is proportional to the cube of the velocity.
Go Figure how much rain air can carry. Until it can't.

Yesterday was much better.
I was paying Kerry $15/hour to enjoy the sunshine while painting the fence (brilliant waterproof white) - working like a trojan; I was inside, on the couch, drinking tea and sketching out a plan to rebuild Win10 on the new Acer.

I took a break and hauled into the guest room the eight sections of four hinged closet doors that David was taking to the tip ("Over my dead ..."). I had already removed the lovely brass hinges to go into my "brass hinges" collection bucket, and was contemplating how clever I was in ordering an extra can of paint so that I could paint all eight door sections gloss white and set up a mammoth bookcase across the end wall of the guest room to help accommodate the thousand books(1) (50+ cartons) we hauled back from Clarenville Library last July. Turns out the “doors” leave a gap of two inches each side, and the doors are one-inch thick, so they fit PERfectly. Am I clever or what?

A red truck reverses up the driveway and toots; Bernard, with another truck load of grass clippings. He should know by now that grass goes into the second driveway (18” deep hole where Lloyd trucked out the gravel bed for his driveway) on Highway 230 but before I can say “Hi” Bernard asks “yer one sum bricks?” and he has brought sixteen interlocking driveway bricks.

Two of them, end-on, will make excellent mid-way supporting pillars for the 80” wide shelves. If I can wrest my brush off Kerry I could even paint the bricks gloss-white.

Can life get any better than this?

Cheers
Chris
(1) The door sections are 15” deep, so I will fit TWO ranks of books on each shelf.

Leif, you hope, as I know, to pirate this thread
But I'll not be moved to take laptop to bed.
20200919_081403_HDR.jpg
I've hopped out of bed and taken a look,
And as usual the street again looks like a brook,
The pit which I'm trying to fill up with grass
Is hosting deep puddles - Ahoy! and Avast!!
It gets any worse I shall dig me a moat
So that boarders must travel by foot AND by boat.
The trees I've composted with fibres and stuff
To protect the poor bulbs from the winters so rough.
My rain-water pail is o'erflown at the brim
Two more days like last night, and we'll all have to swim.
The fence that was painted is still ghostly white
But I only report how it looked late last night.
For all that I know the paint's all off been rinsed
And sunk to the ground and flown out of there sinced.
I can't paint my bookshelves, the paint just won't dries
And if I mix bread-dough, the dough it wont rise(1)
So to bed with Bee-Wolf just to doze and to lie
And to wait 'til the pavements are somewhere near dry.
Safe under a duvet. I'll not walk the plank
For the lawn isn't flooded, it's sluggish, and dank.

So do what you feel like to hijack this thread.
I'm gone. I resign! I'm retreating to bed.
You may fantasize wildly of Rape of the Sabin,
But I'm staying home, safe, ensconced in my cabin.
As far as I know, this town's gentle and quiet;
Why even at Christmas, no sign of a riot,
I've never been frightened of sacking and plunder
But wait! I hear (stage port) a rumbling of thunder
That sounds like the roar of an oncoming train
The last thing we need here! Is more sodding rain!

:sailing:
Chris

P.S. It has rained so much overnight that the NL Hydro power pole has regressed to its origins.
P.P.S And I see that the Chaulk's car has marooned on top of their wood heap. Serves them right for showing off by closing the doors after winding up the windows.
P.P.S. OTOH It's tempting to return home Same reigning monarch ....

(1)No; I don't have any Rye flour; Corrina gave me some rye grass seeds last year but.

I'm a poet, and you didn't know it?
Well, that's a turnip for the books,
Hans is not as smart as he looks!
For all these years we've held him as :king:
Because we thought he knew every thing
But just as he seemed to be at his peakness
Turns out there's a whiff of a crippling weakness
(There's more, but ***I'm*** getting tired of it!)

Hurry! ONLY FIVE COPIES LEFT!

Cheers

I'm hip to your jive, but they're still quite alive!
And that's why they face, firm-spined, in my case.

I didn't know you were a poet, Chris!
I suspect that Chris is a lineal (perhaps even linear?) descendent of the great Scottish poet William McGonagall!

So, the drought's broken then?
yep!
It's broken the tall stalks of garlic spears I was nurturing for next year's seeds.
It has broken the back of the job of washing gravel: No eaves troughs here, so lengths of duct work placed on the ground and loaded with gravel accomplish the job of rinsing soil off and sieving gravel, overnight!
Cheers
