Yet another Verizon "cop out?"
Similar to their refusal to provide fiber optic service to Cape Cod, even though there is a new fiber backbone with plenty of "dark fiber" running down the entire length of the Cape!
Bring back the A.T & T monopoly. They certainly knew how to provide great services!

Re: Verizon discontinues Email service
But that's the trouble with running a business, customers just get in the way. Things would run so much more smoothly without customers.
The same principle applies to anything. For example, in the distant past I was a school teacher. It was amazing how busy we all were and how much work we got done on days when pupils were not in.

That explains why all the old people I have to contact for a charity thing are still using their AOL email addy. I keep feeling like I have to burn sage every time I get a response from them.

In their overpowering feelings of goodness, they at least let you keep the @verizon.net tag!garbsmj wrote:That explains why all the old people I have to contact for a charity thing are still using their AOL email addy. I keep feeling like I have to burn sage every time I get a response from them.

This makes me wonder how long it will be before other ISPs decide to drop their email services so they don't have to mess with the servers, etc.? Around here, we only have one choice for cable.... It is .viking33 wrote:From Verizon:

Re: Verizon discontinues Email service
Sooner than you think I'd guess. One of the UK ISP's has a long running issue with their webmail service. It was first reported on their forum in Oct 2016 and as I type the thread about the issue is 73 pages long.Skitterbug wrote:This makes me wonder how long it will be before other ISPs decide to drop their email services so they don't have to mess with the servers, etc.?...

And Toronto is right up there at the top of the list:-stuck wrote:But that's the trouble with running a business, customers just get in the way.
66% of subway delays are caused by passengers
In Toronto's case I confess to studying the cause for "streetcar bunching" and am now convinced that it is, indeed, passengers who insist on exiting by the front door who delay boarding, cause us to lose yet another green light, which causes us to collect extra passengers from the next stop (where a cross-bus or cross-train has dumped passengers) and the problem just snowballs.

Re: Verizon discontinues Email service
I'm a long-time Verizon customer, and my first reaction to the email Bob quoted was similar. I realize that Verizon bought AOL in 2015, but I didn't think mail service was the reason for the purchase (http://fortune.com/2015/06/24/verizon-gains-aol/).
The transfer of my several verizon.net email accounts did go smoothly, and I still have the same addresses. The only obvious difference is that I go to mail.aol.com instead of the Verizon site to handle support (I use Outlook to receive and send mail). There has been one big plus, though: Verizon's spam filtering was nearly useless, and at least half of all the mail that showed up in Outlook was spam. AOL's spam filter is so good that most days I don't get any.
