Sigh!! If math(s) were so easy we'd all be able to have some pi and forecast the future. :wishful-thinking:

Question. The word maths or math?
I've always used math as either singular or plural. without the "s" tagged on.
"I like doing math."
"There are many kinds of math."

Just my Curiosity of the day.

Those of us that speak English abbreviate 'mathematics' to 'maths'. I've never understood why the Americans can't do the same but then they can't spell 'colour' or 'flavour' or 'aluminium or many other words correctly either.

We (RSA) follow British English, so we use the term "maths".

Well Ken, those of us in the Western world, speak American English. Add the addition of "u" unnecessarily used. :innocent:
Vive la differences. (or however that French term is spelled?)

Well, I suppose we Americans are afflicted with "yankee thrift." We see no need to add an 's' to math as it does nothing to further understanding of the term. Similarly, adding 'u' to flavor or color does nothing but maybe 'posh it up.' Americans in general are not 'posh' by nature. I sure ain't. :fanfare: :fanfare: :flee:

“England and America are two countries separated by the same language.” It's perhaps fitting that there's little agreement on who to credit for that quotation (http://english.stackexchange.com/questi ... n-language).

According to BobH's argument, it must have been the English. If it were the Americans, it would have read,
"England and America are two country separated by the same language."

The way I learned the quote it reads, "England and America are two great countries separated by a common language!"

... which proves that even Americans are sometimes not as yankee thrifty as we claim to be.
