To Loungers in England - a Question, Please

Post by BobH »

If anyone knows of an online resource that might have information about passengers and manifests of 17th Century ships sailing from ports in England, I'd be much obliged if you would share articles, URLs or other sources. My original American ancestor left Towcester and sailed from a port unknown to me on the vessel Buenaventura or Bonnaventure in 1634, or so family lore goes. I have no other information and seek to find ways to ascertain or disprove the information.

 :chocciebar: :thankyou:

Bob - Assume you've already googled 'Bonnaventure in 1634' ? - brings up several hits on 'Mayflower type sailings' and several passenger lists - Didn't see any ports of departure, but then I didn't really look too deeply.

Keith

If you ever get to visit Washington, DC, the National Archives are the treasure trove site. My wife & I spent MANY hours there, researching ship manifests and passenger lists. This was when we were heavily into the Genealogy bit. We did find much information there but what a chore it was, trying to decipher Old English handwriting and so many variations of name spelling.
Ancestry.com is also a good source but there is a fee involved. I don't know what it is these days though. Visit their site and look around.
I think DaveA is our genealogy guy here in the Lounge.
