We have some towpaths like that here in the UK too. There's one where I always get off the bike and push it along.

Spoiler
The 'bike lane' in the photo is a joke. The broken yellow line indicates that parking is not allowed, but stopping to load or unload is. Somebody painted the bicycle sign as a prank...
Best wishes,
Hans

It's a great prank! I looked for a photo of a very narrow canal-side bike path that I took a few months ago near London, but I can't find it. Next time I ride that way I'll try to remember to post it here.

Very well done Leif!

Maybe we could go out cycling together one day Leif. You can have the canal side of the towpath, and I'll stick to the safe side.

Did somebody say narrow cycle paths?

"some parts of the route, measures a mere four inches wide."

I know 2 physicians who enjoy extreme cycling. I'll have to give them your pics, although knowing them I think the canal side path would be ho-hum for them. They cycle over a local river on a fallen tree trunk.

There's a very narrow section of cycle path alongside one of our local canals. If you meet someone coming the other way then someone risks taking an impromptu swim.
