Saturday January 14th Wellesley Street was closed for a Triffid Crane.
In this shot, four Tower Cranes are in evidence besides the Triffid Crane that blocks the street.
Cheers
Chris
As usual I counted the cranes. I maintain that there is no spot in Downtown Toronto (define “Downtown” as you will) where less than four Tower cranes are visible.Toronto - where the Cranes nest

Look again Dave!DaveA wrote:I see only 3 in this picture!
I'll provide an annotated image Tues/Wed.
If we include the Triffid Crane, there are five cranes visible. And I mean Construction cranes, not storks-bringing-babies-cranes.

here you go, Dave:- Note that the lower-right yellow box identifies the crane base, whose jib extends towards the centre of the photo.DaveA wrote:I see only 3 in this picture!
I walk by here several times a week, so i can shoot different angles for you if you are sceptical (as you well might be, it's OK)
Having travelled to many different towns and cities over the past four years, I can tell you that one of the first things I notice, anywhere, is the absence of cranes.
Even people who live in the GTHA are astonished when they venture downtown nowadays.
It is a forest of cranes.

All this time, with all the "yammer" going on, I thought you were talking about BIRDS, not construction equipment!

At night, when Chris is sleeping, the cranes call out to each other...
Best wishes,

That's quite poetic Hans. It provokes inspiration.HansV wrote:At night, when Chris is sleeping, the cranes call out to each other...

Your mission, Chris, is to photograph all 81 cranes and post back here.Seattle remains behind Toronto, which has 81 cranes, for the North American lead.

Re: Toronto - where the Cranes nest
Now I have found a map that shows current and future development.ChrisGreaves wrote:Over the past four years I have mentioned in passing (OK, “Trumpeted”) the number of cranes in downtown Toronto.
I kid you not. Most days this area looks like parts of Manchester ten years after World War two. When I speak of walking through this mess, my apartment I have indicated by a small yellow square.
I regularly walk past St Clair Avenue, off the north end of the map, and to Union Station off the south end of the map.
I walk past Spadina avenue to the west and Parliament street to the east, so the area shown here isbut a part of my daily walking tours.
Cheers
Chris
