That is great...TX for the share.
The photos with a lot of architecture work best, you can see reconstruction and modernization very clearly (besides the changes in the human history).

Not sure what your question is, Stuart. Each photo has a caption describing the location of the shot.

I was struck by how much the German on the left looks like a young Marlon Brando.

That's what I get for not noticing the scroll bar Bob. The first photo just happened to fit my default window perfectly

Gosh, you must really stay in a remote location if your closest friends are continents away?!
Do you need a :hugs: by any chance?

Those photos are a good reminder of the prices paid by so many.

If you have any relatives, friends or acquaintances who fought during WWII, please see them and thank them soon. They are leaving us at an increasingly rapid pace.

The picture of the German POWs being "guarded" by one British solder with a single rifle was reminiscent of the days when there were rules to war and people behaved with some decency even in the midst of wars.

Though terrible things happened in that war, in general the average soldier just wanted to get through it, go home and live in peace, like we all pray for.

As we begin the "holiday season" with Thanksgiving this week in the states, and other year-end holidays and religious observances in the coming weeks, I'll be looking around and asking why these "wars to end all wars" didn't, and what can I do to make tomorrow better. My hope and holiday wish is that everyone would do the same.

If my Dad hadn't been badly wounded in Northern Italy, he'd have been one of the first on the beach in Normandy, and in all likelihood, may not have lived to be married and have a family. So I always remember the men and women who served, and who serve.

Hey PJ, I agree wholeheartedly.

I have always seen war as a fruitless inhumane action that is so prominently depicted by the movie Joyeux Noel which documents the events of the Christmas Truce. That soldiers could celebrate and communicate...and play soccer and share with each other...only to be force back into the trenches by "the powers that be".... :nope:

They are the ones who can and do travel: Brazil, Austria, France, Chile, Canada, New Zealand, meanwhile, me, myself, stuck with the snakes and spiders and heatwaves. (not that I mind though)
Cheers, Claude.

Interesting to see how little the trees have grown in 60+ years ... especially in "A French armoured column passing through Sainte-Mère-Église"
