What's the volume of a pizza?

Post by StuartR »

If a pizza has a radius of z and a thickness of a, what is the volume of the pizza?

That would necessarily only be an approximation, because of the very rough top surface (think olives and capers), and a less-than-absolutely-smooth lower surface. Have you also considered the possible presence of air bubbles in the thicker crust versions? Or of the problems of the thicker 'stuffed crust' extending a cm or two near the rim, in some variants?

They are fairly flat, so no research is needed with that variety...

When you asked what is the volume of a pizza, I was thinking audio.
I guess it's pretty loud since pizza goes with party.

Oh, BTW: I'll have a Cajun Chicken Pizza please....

Since you buying then? Mine's a double pepperoni, double sausage, mushroom and black olives on thin crust (to keep the volume down).

Hmmm . . . a thin crust pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, onion, green pepper and capers - Chicago cut.

. . . or just a simple pepperoni with sausage.

Wonder why no one ordered anchovies. I personally love them.

Because SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED shares my pizza and she doesn't like anchovies.

SHE could do as my wife does and that is order the anchovies on the side and when I get them here I then place them on only the slices I will be eating. Works out well for us.

I generally order a supreme with half of it having olives, anchovies and garlic. Apparently, I'm the only one who loves anchovies in our household.
Cheers, Claude.

Hooray for anchovies! Pizza Express's Quattro Staggioni* pizza has four quarters: one (extra) cheese, one mushroom, one thin pepperoni, and one anchovy, with black olives and capers dotted sparsely over the surface. It exhibits significant yummitude.

* apparently they now call it Four Seasons, presumably to cater for (ho-ho!) those who were baffled by the foreign language!

I thought this too but not just my household my entire family. Then one day while in restaurant where you sat down and ordered your pizza I ordered anchovies on the side. My then 6 year old granddaughter asked if she could try them. Now I have to order twice as many. She loved them and still does today. I guess the taste for anchovies skips a generation.

I tried to determine the volume of the pizza but it kept on changing after each slice I ate.

I wonder if it expands once eaten. I know there have been times I thought so.
