I got out of Guatemala just in time. The other thread has gone in all sorts of directions now.
I'm in Monteverde in Costa Rica, in a lodge on the edge of a tropical rainforest, mountains around and a ravine plunging below.
There were white faced capuchin monkeys feeding in the guva trees outside my lodge this morning, jumping onto the roof. But the uncooperative things wouldn't stay still for a photo. Unlike the coati sitting in the tree as I was having lunch, hoping for a morsel. And there was a sloth in a roadside tree just near the lodge.
The green roof is my cabin. The other pictures are from my window.
No bright colourful pictures I'm afraid.

Re: Costa Rica
I had to visit Costa Rica for work once, and I got to go for a walk through a rain forest there. It's a very beautiful country, you're such a lucky man Geoff. Have fun.

Re: Costa Rica
Wow, the locals (image #2) sure look a LOT different to the Guatemalans....

Re: Costa Rica
Yes, please. Keep them coming.
If you visit a coffee plantation, beware of the Fer-de-Lance. I'm told that they lie in wait in the bushes to catch birds visiting the plants' blooms.

Re: Costa Rica
Hummingbirds, and the beautidul, but hard to find, quetzal (this one is a male). And a capuchin monkey, a little more cooperative today.
The surprise for today was a sloth, proceeding at a very unslothlike pace along the power line.
