A Look Back – 14 Retro Tech Commercials (videos)

Post by Rudi »

Steve Ballmer is a little TOOO passionate in Vid#1. On the other hand Bill Cosby was funny as ever in Vid#2...
A few interesting videos nevertheless...http://www.davescomputertips.com/a-look ... ls-videos/

John Cleese is excellent, as always...

(Steve Ballmer always makes me wonder what he snorted/smoked/shot/consumed before his presentations...)
Best wishes,
Hans

The voice response information is incomplete. In 1969, we tried an IBM Audio Response Unit (ARU) tied to a mainframe computer to perform credit card authorizations and provide approval codes, decline codes, and referral codes to front line telephone operators who where on phone calls with merchants. The technology was at least a year old then - but it was piece of crap and no real application software to support it. We soon switched to video terminals with a 5x9 screen and about the size of a sofa end table to display the information for authorization operators. The terminal was a predecessor of the 3270 that later became ubiquitous but I cannot remember its model number. We were pretty hot stuff when we were in our 20s (or at least we thought we were).

Ballmer has always rubbed me the wrong way. I never saw the Windows 1.0 commercial or would have probably gone Apple as soon as I left IBM....

TI computer, with 16K of memory!!! What more could you ask for!

And the VIC-20 - a computer made from a video interface chip.

Those were the times when only REAL MEN owned computers - we were the only people dumb enough to invest money in these toys!!!

Nice insider information ::cheers:
Haven't used this word in a long time... "ubiquitous". I have to run a definition on Google to see if I interpreted that correctly. :fanfare:
