What would you eat on "fresh, out the oven" bread?

Post by Rudi »

So, talking about fresh (really fresh) bread...what would your favourite topping be?
You may choose up to 3 options, as I know its a difficult choice

I gotta tell ya man, it's just great to be leader in world opinion. Or a world leader in opinion. Or something.
Also tons good being able to get my licks in on BobH before he's wide awake.

P.S. Can you tell me a major city 12 hours away from your time zone, please?
P.P.S. Where would you like this thread to be hijacked to? I have only15 minutes to fill in before breakfast starts ...

Why are you mixing other choices with peanut butter?
I like either peanut butter OR jam NOT both, why ruin a good jam or peanut butter!

Hijack one
One of the best bread every cooked, and is simple.
It will make 2 loafs or 2 pans of Rolls.
I also make cinnamon rolls or pineapple rolls from the dough.

Bread, Pita
5-6 cups of flour ¼ cup oil
2 cups hot water 2 packets of dry yeast
1 Tablespoon sugar 2 teaspoon of salt
In a large bowl add 2 cups of flour, yeast, salt sugar. Add oil to hot water. Mix well into the dry mixture – stir well, keep adding flour until satiny.
Let raise (covered) about 30 minutes.
Roll out dough, cut out rolls or whatever you want to make.
Let it raise 20-30 minutes
Bake at 425 Degrees for 10-12 minutes.

Prepare the dough night before and let the rolls raise over night in the frig, and bake them the next morning for fresh hot rolls with your coffee or hot chocolate.

Peanut butter alone on bread is too dry! It would be difficult to swallow...so adding a bit of jam or syrup to it is not only easier to eat by really nice too.
I grew up with the mix of peanut butter and jam/syrup and cannot imagine eating peanut butter alone on the bread (licking it off a spoon is great though!)

Peanut butter, mayonaise (or salad dressing) and sliced banana.

The closest I've come to that was when I was pre-teens; my mom used to mash up banana and put it on bread...then stick it in the oven for a few minutes. The top of the banana got baked and by that time the bread was toast. Then we ate it with Oros cooldrink.... GOSH...what a memory jogger!!!

Banana sandwiches are well known throughout the American South. Usually they are on un-toasted white bread but I prefer toasted bread. Whole wheat bread is also used, but I've never encountered the use of rye or pumpernickel or other breads. Usually only a sandwich spread (mayo or salad dressing) is spread on the bread/toast and the bananas are sliced (after peeling, of course) and cover one slice and the other slice placed atop. Some areas of the South also are known for peanut butter with banana slices, either alone or with the spread - I prefer both on whole wheat.

For lunch, this can be prepared and eaten in less than 10 minutes. There is a lot of nutrition from both the peanut butter and the banana but beware of the carbohydrates from the bread.

Dave - Your bread recipe sounds like a winner. I've got to give it a try after all this talk about fresh bread!
Rudi - I've always liked my hot fresh bread with only butter (not margarine - ). I don't need to dunk my bread into soup! :nope:

Butter and banana sandwiches are great but I have never added mayo to that. I like fresh bread with just mayo on it too.
Who will you Inspire today?

I feel obliged to point out that while I like being a world-leader in public opinion, I am a tad miffed at being shown up as essentially totally ordinary, boring, or even banal.
My initial vote seems to be a dotted white line - right down the middle of the road.

Perhaps a nice batch of bananal bread might fix the problem ...

More like a dotted white line down the middle of the road with three right turns

Freshly baked banana bread is really yummy too. However I think peoples choices of toppings might radically differ with this type of bread. I mean, imagine banana bread with bananas as a topping, huh!?, or banana bread with peanut butter. Well...some probably would venture into that territory....
