Why in heavens name do you want to toast fresh bread??? You may as well buy last weeks colour tagged bread as it'd be pre-toasted for you.

We were making toast of Texas 50 years ago when we started hearing about how big Texas was. We'd scratch our heads and stare at our map of Western Australia, stare at Texas again, and realize how small it was, by comparison.
My favorite Texas joke is still the two Alaskans sitting morosely in a bar in Hyder, staring into their beer, bored (and beered!) out of their minds, and one says drearily to the other "I know! let's cut Alaska in half and make Texas the third-biggest state!"
:cruel:

Easy, Big Boy!
You're dealing with Texas here.
You probably ought to remind them to remove the plastic tag and the bag before toasting.
You know what they say: Don't make a mess of Texas, or something like that. I know it fits on a bumper sticker.
The slogan, I mean, not the state.
Although when you travel some of the roads parts of the state do end up on your bumper.

I think I'd better get out of town again. Waddya reckon: Coulommiers, La Ferte sous Jouarre, Crouy sur Ourcq or Crecy la Chapelle? They all run out of the same station - Gare de l'Est.

P.S. Ile de France is big; today I'm filling in the empty area off to the East:-

Actually, the joke'll be on Bob - I'm thinking of not going home! Wouldn't take much ...

I'm finding it easier and easier to fall into my old ways, thinking in French, trying to act like a gentleman (Thirty years in Toronto will wash it out of you).

Today I got stopped at the metro by a barrage of ticket-checking RATP guys. I play-acted eeny-meeny-miney-mo and picked the good-looking blonde; they all laughed. She checked my Navigo and then I asked her what she was doing tonight. She smiled at the flattery and said "It's a secret!", so I've now got the evening to myself

I paced out part of Coulommieres this morning - five pastry-shops within eighty metres.
Me: J'ai une regime, but vous avez des meringues framboise.
She: Vous voulez une monsieur?
Me: Le plus grande vous avez!
She laughs and we chat ...
She didn't come home with me, either.
Here are ten of the patisseries:-

Now what I need is someone to congratulate me on stepping into only one of them.

It seems you cleaned one of them out.... I count only nine patisseries....

Ten little patisseries neatly in a row
Ten little patisseries neatly in a row
And if one little patisseries has a visit from Chris
There'll be nine little patisseries neatly in a row

Well, Chris, I reckon you better just stay out of Texas if'n you're gonna keep talkin' funny like that!

BTW: The slogan is "Don't Mess with Texas". Some of us have a bumper sticker that says "Don't Mess with Texans" and we back it up.

I've heard the Alaska stuff before, but if you divided it in half, you still wouldn't have enough people in one of 'em for a night at Billy Bob's. 'course I reckon they'd not be able to take the heat either.

Aw c'mon Bob, I love Texas, at least the Dallas part of it, one-time home to The Blue Flame BBS, best BBS in the USA, in its day.
BobH wrote:BTW: The slogan is "Don't Mess with Texas".
Well, from what I've heard those cars y'all drive are big enough to carry a bumper sticker that reads "Don't mess with the slogan that reads don't mess with Texas or Texans, the jury is still out on that". I'll reduce my usual 10% to 5%; just for you!

I once spent just under two minutes in a bar in Hyder, and that was enough for me.
Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever been in a bar in Texas.
Waddya say after I've visited every Patisserie in France I head on down and we sink a few cold ones?

After I've visited every Patisserie in France I'll have a thirst I wouldn't sell for a fiver!
