This is an interesting way to lockup the bike to avoid being stolen.
But now the YERKA Project has designed a two-wheeler whose frame functions as a lock, requiring thieves to saw the frame — rendering the entire bike useless — if they want to steal it.
Three young Engineering from University in Santiago, Chile are designing the bike. The Washington Post Article also states the students are working on securing the bike with a combination lock using a smartphone. Apparently this is already being done by Bitlock.

KUDOS to the young entrepreneurs :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:
Around our parts you more often than not see the frame still chained but the wheels missing, I think that the bike industry introduced the quick release type wheels to increase after sales

I've often wondered how cycle-wheel thieves make a quick escape. Do they wander round with getaway bikes that have one wheel missing?

Use the stolen wheel as a unicycle?

(More seriously: I guess they dump the wheels in the back of a van)
Best wishes,
Hans

A bike with no wheels would be a bit of a sticky wicket

(trying to stay on-topic this week ...)
And how would this technique have helped the owner of this practically-new bike? (Spotted this morning on my walk back from the Eaton Chelsea)

Note to Rudi: No, Rudi, those are not sled-wheels attached to the front fork ...

Yeah. But they ought to have a box or something in the back of the van so that they can hide the wheels ....
