You ask me, he's sane as can be.HansV wrote:If you can't view the video, try silly walks Guard at Buckingham Palace.
Me, if I had to walk back and forth as part of my job, I'd try to liven it up a bit.
P.S. Is the gun loaded?

Nope, it isn't. They can use the bayonet in extreme circumstances, though.ChrisGreaves wrote:P.S. Is the gun loaded?
There is a "panic button" inside the sentry house.

Re: Silly Walks at Buckingham Palace
During the video you could see him pick up a penny and return to the guard house and put the penny in the slot. This is to keep the panic button active. The penny is only supposed to be used in emergencies (because the panic button uses a lot of electricity). Again...another breaking of protocol.HansV wrote:There is a "panic button" inside the sentry house.

Methinks someone wants - very badly - to get out of the Royal Marines.
Does anyone know when they moved the guards inside the fence? I remember the first time I saw them their sentry boxes were outside the gate and they stood at attention when not marching in front of the gate. Visitors became disrespectful toward them and mistreated them taking advantage of their discipline and duty to ignore the tourists.

Question....
How does one get the Youtube video to play full screen like the one Bob posted? Whenever I post a Youtube video it plays in the small window with all the mini vids down the right hand side.

Look at the URL.
A standard YouTube URL looks like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYwGrVir9lY" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
To display the same video fullscreen, you can use http://www.youtube.com/v/TYwGrVir9lY" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or http://www.youtube.com/embed/TYwGrVir9lY" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
To display it fullscreen and make it run automatically: http://www.youtube.com/v/TYwGrVir9lY?autoplay=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or http://www.youtube.com/embed/TYwGrVir9lY?autoplay=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Some videos won't work this way - apparently the "owner" can specify that the video shouldn't be embedded. So always test the link before submitting the post.

Re: Silly Walks at Buckingham Palace
I hope the guy's Sergeant Major didn't have a coronary!
When I was in ROTC (Reserve Officer's Training Corps) in both high school and college, we did drill team stuff--precision marching with rifles. I loved it!
My Dad was a Senior Army Instructor at several schools over the years, and tried rifles with bayonets. Once.
After the commander of the drill team got a bit sliced-and-diced, bayonets were retired. We just used Springfield .303 rifles after that.
And we gals had to be able to do the same physical fitness as the guys, so that was quite a challenge in high school. I managed to do it, though. Where there's a will, there's a way.
Blast from the past... We thought we were B-A-D!
