Heard this song this morning and thought of this thread: Jimmy Nail - Big River (Original Video Clip with Mark Knopfler on guitar), though Jimmy is better known for his #1 hit: Ain't No Doubt.
Hijack Alert!!!!!!

In the UK Jimmy Nail was best known for his appearance in Auf Wiedersehen Pet and the singing(?) career was a spin of, if I had to pick a song of his it would be Crocodile Shoes which was another TV series that he starred in

HURRAH!
Well, I typed in "lyrics to ..." and then the lyrics you provided. It took some searching since lots of stuff came up, but I just scrolled through and found the video link. The song sounded right, so I was hoping it was correct!
YAY!!

I had the 45 to that song--San Francisco--and tried to sing to it many, many times (I'm a terrible singer, but love music).

Yeah!! But I guess, technically, it's not a one-hit wonder.

Similar to Mungo Jerry's hit, there's "If You Wanna Be Happy" by Jimmy Soul:

Jimmy had another chart single according to Wikipedia, but I also subscribe to the "if I only remember one, then it's a one-hit wonder" philosophy

Met Marty Balin earlier this year -- he lives in the area -- and really loved hearing "Hearts" and "Miracles" sung again by that wonderful voice. He also fancies painting, and had an exhibit on display that evening, showing his creativity spans across the arts!
