Some more contributions...

Heard this song this morning and thought of this thread: Jimmy Nail - Big River (Original Video Clip with Mark Knopfler on guitar), though Jimmy is better known for his #1 hit: Ain't No Doubt.

Rudi

But he's not really a one-hit wonder then...

Some more from around 1970:
Norman Greenbaum - Spirit in the Sky
Lemon Pipers - Green Tambourine
Mungo Jerry - In the Summertime
Best wishes,
Hans

Joe Dolce Shaddap You Face

He was interviewed on radio a while ago down under and said there was still getting plenty coming in from royalties every month.
Cheers, Claude.

Ain't No Doubt has been his only #1 hit in his career.
The only reason why I referenced Big River is because that is my favourite song (I think its better that his #1).

Ah - you're using the term "one-hot wonder" in a stricter sense than I: you're looking at number 1 hits only.

Hans

What makes a one hit wonder seems to have a few opinions, but it's not just the stats. I agree with what Leif said too, earlier up the thread: "...it's because it's the only one I ever remember them making."

I've never been able to listen seriously to Feelings after a Dutch comedian created a parody. The English word feelings sounds more or less the same as the Dutch word for traffic jam...

I'm a big fan of Big River ever since my sister brought me back a copy of the recording after visiting relatives in the Newcastle (UK) area a few years back.

A favorite one-hit-wonder of mine is Tar and Cement by Verdelle Smith.

OK, you folks who are wizard at old songs, here's a challenge.

In the summer of 1958 or 59 there was a song on the charts in the US. I cannot recall a title or an artist but there was a refrain - maybe the bridge - that had a lyric, "You good lookin' woman, you what's comin' with that look in your eye . . . look in your eye .. . "

I'll buy all a round if anyone can come up with the name of the tune or the artist.
