Hi Bob,
I have dual citizenship with the US and with the UK. I remember when I turned 18 I renounced my UK citizenship automatically, I did not sign anything, it was assumed by the US government and the UK never said anything. Then about 10 years ago I found out that the US no longer cared so I now have both a US passport and a UK, or EU, passport. It makes travel to Europe a lot easier. I have not had to deal with any legal issues at this point so I cannot go any further into your points.
