Post by Rudi »

A few interesting spelling errors occurring in job CV's.
  • Instrumental in ruining entire operation for a Midwest chain store
  • I am anxious to use my exiting skills
  • Speak English and Spinach
  • Dear Sir or Madman
  • I attended collage courses for public relations
  • Following is a grief overview of my skills
  • I’m attacking my resume for you to review
  • I am experienced in all faucets of accounting
  • Hope to hear from you, shorty

Most of those show the hallmarks of the comedy script-writer...

Whereas my latest amusement came from a waterways magazine:
Back in 1969 Ian built his first boat in the form of a flat bottomed punt with a roof powered by a 4 horsepower outboard motor.

Technology has advanced since then, but not the use of the comma.

While reading long sentences, I pause when I run out of breath, so I don't rely on commas anymore. In your sentence I paused after bottomed.

:whisper: I think I should get out a bit more for walks.

A colleague was spelling out a password for a client at a university. He specified upper case. The client asked "are the numbers upper or lower case?"

The purpose of the comma is to indicate a pause, you know!

Sure...but what happens if you run out of breath before you can reach a comma?

 how can you run out of breath when reading? Or can you only read out loud?

You have emphysema. And probably the end of your first finger is getting worn.

That's why Rudi doesn't like touch screens.

Apologies my sudden lack of participation here is because the sun come out clothes needed hanging and the grocery parcels my wife brought back from the shops needed to be packed into the food cupboard and it makes it harder to do this as my one finger apparently is a bit shorter than its supposed to be. I'm back now on my laptop which is not a touch screen and find out that someone is pointing fingers at Claude. What did I miss...?

Be careful, though. There might be a tadpole among the commas.

Oh goodness...from one extreme to the other...

The difference between the tadpole and the comma.
- The tadpole is sentenced to a short run.
- The comma is there to help run the long sentence.

BTW, here is another million commas...or is it a gigantic tadpole?
