Oh, Hans, that's so confusing! And why do some Dutch candies have salt in them (rather unexpectedly, for American palates)??? We have a grocery here that sells overseas candies and other food products and the licorice from the Netherlands was definitely a surprise!

How many folks here have worked with multi-national/multi-lingual teams on information systems projects? Just out of curiosity? That was one of the most interesting parts of working for the State of TN for me. When I worked at the environmental laboratory, we had a few people who weren't from the US working there, but not many.

At the State, especially in the programming/IT/info systems areas, there were lots of folks from all over the world. Even in the health department, we had people from Australia, India, Egypt, Kuwait, Nigeria... and Tennessee. Made for interesting conversations.

Although sweet candy is more popular, we've always had a lot of savory/salty candy too - Dutch liquorice is very different from English liquorice. It's an acquired taste, like soused herring...

Never heard of that! Goodness. Sounds like fish you forgot about, then found, and thought, "Hmm. Doesn't look too bad... nom nom nom!" But the US has foods like that too.

And yes, the Dutch licorice is VERY different from US/English! Not bad, but different.
