Re: Hair today, gone tomorrow
I wish!!!
The hat... has a history. Dad also had a favorite sweater. Both my hat and his sweater got rather the worse for wear over time. Mom waited until Dad was at work and I was at school one day and did a major housecleaning. The hat and the sweater disappeared. Both Dad and I were devastated.
Mom thought we were joking at first, I think, but then realized we really were very sad. So she got me a new hat and Dad a new sweater, and never threw out our favorites unless she asked first. We joked with her about that hat and the sweater for thirty years, at least!
When I worked for a lab, we had "lab week" and we'd have all sorts of contests. One of them was to ID your coworker from a picture of them as a child. I used the hat photo and it was very funny to see how people tried to figure it out. Eventually someone decided it was me, but it was really more a process of elimination than anything else.

Oh yes, I also remember Sherbert Dabs. If you sucked too much sherbert it stuck to the back of the throat and caused you to cough.
Those were the days.

YUM! We didn't have Sherbert Dabs. Sadness. We did have Marathon Bars, which were caramel bars covered with a thin layer of chocolate--you had to eat them fast or the chocolate melted, making a mess. And we had (still have) Tootsie Roll Pops.

Another sweet that brings back childhood memories were nickerballs. I remember sucking them for a minute, then popping them out of my mouth into my dirty hands...to check the colour...as they were made of various colourful layers. It was fun. We also had red ones called Fireballs; after the candy layer came a very fiery layer of whatever....burned the heck off your tongue. We took double dares on who could keep it in their mouths the longest!

They lick it until it is small enough to put in the mouth. But, in the mean time, the hands and what ever else is sticky from handling the wet item.(How the heck does a human eat that big one - lick it till its small enough to pop into the mouth? -----Yuck!)
