A venomous animal actively injects toxic stuff into its victim by biting or stinging.
A poisonous animal has a toxic skin or body, the victim must touch or eat the animal to be affected.

By the way, I admit that I saw this article earlier today; it mentions the difference.

Not sure where animals with poisonous "parts" fits in to that classification.
Some fish, for instance, are edible but if you eat the wrong bit you're cactus. Same with snakes.

They fall under the definition of poisonous:
... the victim must touch or eat the animal to be affected.

OK
I give in.
How can you eat something without touching it, that is, without it coming into contact with your body?

I feel this is a stupid question :), but...

Are venomous snakes immune to venom, or just physically protected along the "logistics line"? If a snake were to be bitten one of its own (or itself), would it be poisoned?

According to Are snakes susceptible to their own venoms?, there is no single answer. Snakes swallow prey that they have bitten, so they can ingest their own venom. Directly injecting venom into the bloodstream can be harmful, but some snakes apparently create their own antidote.

An interesting fact I just learned...

Snake venom is composed of amino acids and toxic only if it enters the blood stream; if you were to drink venom it would simply be broken down in your digestive system with no ill effect.
