Six earth-shattering questions

Post by ChrisGreaves »

Six questions
"If Zorn, the evil alien overlord, used his hyper-powered disintegrator ray to cut right through the earth in a clean swipe, what would happen?"

What would happen if you could take a one-centimetre slice out of the earth at the equator (creating two physical hemispheres, one in the north, one in the south)?
What would happen if you could take a one-centimetre slice out of the earth through the poles (creating two physical hemispheres, one in the east, one in the west)?

Rinse and repeat using one metre wide, one kilometre wide.

I'll supply the answer tomorrow; that should give you guys some time to think about this.

I only count 3 questions?

If your absence does not affect them, your presence didn't matter.

Oh dear, Oh Dear!.
It was for bright people like you, Rudi, that I allowed an extra day's grace (grin).

2 questions: slice through the equator, slice through the poles
3 options: 1 cm, 1 m, 1 Km.
Two times three equals six. :clapping:

P.S. When I say "slice through the poles" I am not referring to the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact ...

Chances are good it would go right through my new car.

With the horizontal slices, the top bit would fall down on the bottom bit, with increasingly loud bangs.
With the vertical slices, the gooey, molten bit in the middle of the earth, would run down to the south pole and melt all the penguins.
And the internet would go down.

Right?

Being certain that there is a lesson in physics imminent, I'm guessing that centrifugal and centripetal forces might play in the answers and gravity, as well, of course.

We need to send out a posse of vigilantes to drag Greaves back in to provide more information on this question.

I'm here.
I NEVER need dragging back to Eileen's Lounge.
It's that I get dragged away organising stuff around Toronto; especially organising my life, such as it is. Also visits from Aussies etc
