Random 3

Post by Rudi »

Since it has been an unusually quite day at Eileen's today...something to break the silence!

1.
At a party, everyone shook hands with everybody else. There were 66 handshakes.
How many people were at the party?

2.
This rectangle of seemingly random colored dots contains a message.
Do you know the answer?

3.
A simple English Test that will quiz your knowledge of grammar, your reading comprehension, and some strange subtleties of the English language.

Well, I might as well get something right today (hopefully). #1 is 12 people.

Yep....
Well done on that English Test. I ran through it twice and in both cases got 12.

In one case I got this question and was surprised to have it wrong??
Spoiler
I said 2 mistakes...where is the third error???

Can it be that the quotes are an error, since it's NOT really a quote? But then that is unfair!

No idea. Perhaps they meant beefsteaks?

(Got 14 out of 15 the second time I took the test, but some of the questions were the same, that made it easier)
Best wishes,
Hans

Spoiler
I would guess that if you correct two of the errors (Their > There and misteaks > mistakes), then the third error is the number four, as there wouldn't be four mistakes, but three. Or something.

If that analogy is correct then it is a trick question and has nothing to do with the context of the English test.
It must probably be an error on the page!

OK, OK! It's bad English to spell the word 'three' with the letters f + o + u + r

Hans...did you see the word in the picture or did you get the solution by other means? I ask as I have always had an issue with these types of puzzles. I just cannot see the word no matter how fuzzy I make my eyes of where I focus on in front or behind the image!

The only common letter there is "r". Not much to work with! :hairout:

The image as posted is too small for my old eyes, so I zoomed the page to 200%. I could then see the 3D image by slightly crossing my eyes (if I stop trying to focus, my eyes wander slightly until the image suddenly jumps into view).
Best wishes,
Hans

This is an OMG moment.....!!!!

I have NEVER seen the messages in these types of puzzles until now! Suddenly it jumped out at me and I could clearly see the word written large across the length of the block, approximately 10cm above the block in clear 3-D. WOW!!!

It does help when I enlarged the image to 200%

TX Hans!

I got that one about the number of errors, there seemed to be two spelling errors and one instance of inability to count correctly, making three in all

That's what Leif said....to which I replied that it's a trick question and not in the context of an English Test. Unfair!!!

BTW: I'm sure the page is rigged that no-one can get 15/15! (IMHO)

Just keep on trying - eventually you'll have memorized even the correct wrong answers...
