I have a Hewlitt-Packard dv6000 laptop that is about 6 years old and it gave me a scare recently. It would blip off suddenly yet it would restart without a hitch. I thought it was hardware-related and I had some gloomy thoughts about having to buy a new one. Then I defragged the C drive and it seem to settle down, only blipping off once during that session, and I restarted and completed the program successfully.
Then I looked at the D partition and realized that I had never defragged it a it was 95% fragmented! So I took care of that task!
Lesson learned: defrag more often! I should know better. Computer fine now. Whew!

Re: Defrag
I recommend you also carry out a full Chkdsk on both drives. Six years is a long time in the life of a laptop drive...
