Reliable hard drive monitoring software

Do any of the Loungers use hard drive monitoring software? I have been using Hard Drive Sentinel for a while, and it reports that my 2TB Samsung external drive is 100% healthy. The drive is about 6 months old and used for continuous backup (Genie Timeline). It does get overheated at times in the warmer weather, but less tendency to overheat now that we have reached the southern autumn. I tried DriveSitter Pro recently, and it reports that the drive is nigh unto death and gives a fail date about two weeks away. I am curious as to which program is telling me "the truth" about the drive's health and longevity. I wasn't able to find a drive testing program for this drive on the Samsung site.
Would it be better not to use this sort of software and the accompanying anguish altogether?!
Your advice and experiences would be gratefully received.
