2 short beeps, and the ERRORS

Post by DaveA »

We have a Sony VAIO VGN-C240E laptop.
On power up we get the following:
2 short beeps
Phoenix NetBIOS 4.0 Release 6.1
2040 System RAM Passed
2048K Cache SRAM Passed
System BIOS Shadowed
Video BIOS Shadowed
ATAIC C-ROM: Sony DVD RW AW-G540A
Fixed Disk 0: Hitachi HTs5416J9SA00
Mouse initialized
Error
Resource conflict PCI in slot 01
Bus: 0A, Device: 03, Function 01
Error
Resource conflict Mass storage controller in slot 01
Bus: 0A, Device: 03, Function 02
F1 to Resume, F2 to Setup
I have tried booting to a TrueImage CD but still the same.
After about 45 minutes after hitting "F1" it loaded.

On a restart I get the same thing.

Any ideas and all I can find on the 2 beeps, is that it is a CMOS error

Now it takes about 18 minutes to start up after I hit the F1 button to resume, but, after I get logged in and most start ups are running, I get a icon in the TASKBAR with the following "Interactive Services..." and the system is hung!

Have you tried checking the memory module(s), i.e. if possible removing one, or remove and reseating the module?
As you probably know, it's a bit difficult to find information about 2 short beeps for that BIOS... could be a general initialisation error code; and as you say some CMOS corruption.

I think most Phoenix beep tones are some combo of THREE beeps.
The only thing I see listed in my BIOS tones list is a generic error listing of POST\CMOS error for TWO beeps.

Yes, that is what I have found a CMOS error as it is bad battery, but the date and time are current!

Took the machine to the shop. They called back today, good news they found the problem. The bad news, it is the mother board, appears to be a physical damage. If a board can be found it would run $500.00 US or more.

Needless to say, no repairs will be done to the new high tech brick.
