Quick thanks, the compatible cartridges I bought from 365ink.com for the my previous Epson printers never caused a problem but seeing I have read about compatibles causing clogged jets I thought I should seek multiple opinions from those I trust. Chances are there may be some constructive comments on the Canon forum so maybe I will have a peek. Regards all Dave.

I agree with StartR. We use HP printers and both the desk jet and LaserJet cartridges are not cheep but all of the printers lasted better than 10 years.
Our 1220c desk jet is starting to make noises, so we have been looking for another wide printer (up to at least 11x17) but they are hard to come by. This 1220c we have had for way to many years. I see the price of this machine is $289 if you can find one, and we did NOT pay that much way back when.
Both of the older printers were purchased when we had Windows 98. The LaserJet was replaced about a year and 1/2 ago.
