DELL laptop monitor blemish- What do I do now?

Post by ChrisGreaves »

DSCN4049.JPG
About two weeks ago a thin green line appeared (and remains) on my screen.
The line appears to be two to four pixels wide, and shows up as a green (It's hard for me to tell whether it is pale, lime etc).

I am thinking that some component has burnt out, maybe a handfull of transistors measuring about two microns across, that us, unfixable.

I have owned this laptop less than three years but must confess to leaving it running pretty well 24/7, say 22,000 hours (how's my mental arithmetic?).

I suspect that the most common reply to my question "What do I do now?" is going to be:-
"Just go and buy a new laptop, Chris, and this time make sure that you buy one with a Break key so that you can use Ctrl-Break in the event you make a programming error"

That is to say, I can be easily be persuaded to buy a new laptop.

P.S. Rudi, I will set up a special thread in Scuttlebut titled "Comparative Intelligences" just for you

A selfie, nice! But who's the entity on the right?

PS: If it was a thin blue line, you could ask Rowan Atkinson to help out!

¡Muchas gracias Amigo!
Por favor, ¿Cómo se dice “I’ll have a shot at unscrewing the laptop when I get home” en espagñol?

I think it goes something like: me gustaría tener a alguien competente para hacerlo por usted! :flee:

Chris,
What is "uncrewing" and how is it done?

I'd also recommend to not do the crewdriving on your lap but rather on a table

Oh, and BTW, for your next post, here is an extra "s" if you need one!

Rudi

Thanks John!
Got it!!
I'll take it to the little man up the street this afternoon.
A second line has appeared, blue, about 1/8 of an inch to the right of the green.

Alright.
AllRight!!
Maybe I shouldn't have added so much vodka; it appears to have unbalanced my screwdriver ...
