A year with the Apple Watch: A good realistic overview

Post by Rudi »

Tech products are always "oversold" IMHO. It was refreshing to read an article about the Apple Watch that brings a bit of balance to the hype and frenzy of these mainstream tech products. I don't have an Apple Watch (as a matter of fact, I don't even have a watch--period!), as my iPhone is sufficient for all my needs, but if you are interested in purchasing this watch, read this article to find out someones experience with it and determine if it is worth the dock-up of cash.

A year with the Apple Watch: What works, what doesn’t, and what lies ahead?
Some features are more useful than others, and there's lots of room to improve.
Regards,
Rudi

I watch the time on my watch, which is probably why it's called a watch

Nope, I haven't had a watch or any wrist device for more than a decade now. The whole point of posting this (at least from my perspective) is to indicate that this "fancy" device that can do so much wonderful things, "apparently", seems to get demoted to just a watch for telling the time after all the hype settles.

Hey Leif, watch it! You might start a watch war if you don't watch what your saying!

So, if you don't spend time watching a watch watching war, you have more time to watch your watch.
Best wishes,
Hans

My watch currently costs £23 from Amazon.
It tells the time, in both analogue and digital fashion.
It can show the day-of-the-week, the day and the month.
Each purchase usually lasts between five and ten years.
It has been in production for at least 40 years.

What need have I of Apple excrescences?

Ahhh....the trusty CASIO.

I had a Casio calculator watch when I was a teen, and after that I purchased a Casio sports watch 100m water resistant and a large LCD screen with all the time/day/month/year, moon phases and other info on the screen. My prized possession for 3-4 years.

Till you went swimming with it on and found the difference between water resistant and proof?

I own three watches, none of which have worked for several years. I keep meaning to get the batteries replaced in the two of them, and have the mechanical one cleaned -- but I just haven't had the time... Like Rudi, I now depend on my phone.

I'm starting to rely a lot more on Siri nowadays. Just saying "Hey Siri, what is the time?", is very convenient, especially if you are out of reach of your phone. After a short pause you hear this voice saying it is 6 o'clock, or something other. Very convenient!

My phone tells time along with many other things (like making calls) and I always have it when I need to know what time it is.

When I don't have it (during a race so it doesn't get soaked with sweat because it's not proof or resistant anything, etc.) then I don't need to know what time it is.

Simple.

My watch tells me what time it is and I wear it all the time, even when I'm in the shower.

Stuart, not all watches are water resistant, so I would refrain from opening the taps, ever! You can still sing heartily though!

I always buy cheap waterproof watches Rudi, they don't cost much and they're VERY good at telling me what time it is

You can keep all your electronic wrist gadgets. My watch as an 18th birthday present from my parents. In the subsequent :hushmouth: years it has hardly been off my wrist. It is self winding and has only been repaired once in all those years and it still keeps pretty good time.
