(video movies) DVD-RW vs. DVD+RW

I know so little ...
I've been struggling with re-assembling my movie collection.
In particular my DVD/VHS recorder sometimes permits "Title Dividing" and sometimes doesn't.
I thought the problem was the manufacturer - my Maxell DVDs worked fine, ny Staples, Fujitsu and Memorex did not.
Then Monday I wandered the computer district with a working DVD and the nice young man at modcomcomputers pointed out that my disk was a PLUS RW.

I didn't realize that MINUS RW was different from PLUS RW.
I thought it was just like Maxi-scoop (vs. regular scoop) with kitty litter.

I am beginning to compile a little essay here, but it is incomplete; I must still add that I went back yesterday and bought a stack of Phillips DVD+RW (and a 1TB USB drive and some sleeves ...) and today I am the happiest movie consolidator on my floor, maybe in my building, perhaps even, on my short street!

I really feel like I owe the nice guy at modcomcomputers a lunch.
Or perhaps one of those supper-and-a-movie combo tickets someplace ...
