Hi,
I need to upgrade from USB to USB 3 on my desktop.
Does this require hardware changes or is there a plug-n-play adapter for this ?
Kind Regards,
Mohamed

Re: USB to USB 3 Upgrade
There are plug and play devices that you can use, but it may depend on the setup and compatibility of your motherboards and available card slots.
See these two articles for clarity and options...
- How to add USB 3.0 to your desktop PC
- Easily upgrade your PC or laptop to USB 3.0 or SATA-III

One adapter I can recommend is a Renesas USB PCIe to USB3.0 card.MSingh wrote:Hi,

I have it installed for my External USB Hard Drive and it gave noticeably faster I\O speed. Very inexpensive at about $8.00 US. One source is Amazon.

Re: USB to USB 3 Upgrade
Thank you Rudi and Viking,
Rudi your links were very helpful, I followed them & I'm almost up & running with a similar PCiExpress Card as suggested by Viking.
Viking, did you find it necessary to connect the power to the USB 3 card or was it sufficient to be powered off the pc board ?
My molex connector is a bit too short to reach the USB 3 card & I can't find an extension connector locally.
Your responses are appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Mohamed
